Reflection: Skittish

this poem appeared in Whisper Magazine in 2013.

darkness prowls the periphery of my vision,

and my mind,

where the secrets kept,

afraid of the light,

nervous and antsy,

roaming the wastelands of thoughts best forgotten,

yet somehow chained to me,

and unable to be set free,

darkness prowls the periphery.
