Study of the Dismal River (Paintings)

I decided to write short descriptions of the paintings in this collection.

this painting was of a little spring on the west part of my family's ranch. It was thought to contain quick sand and so had a fascination for me, along with the tree still alive but slowing falling over.
this view is from one of my favorite places looking west, an old gentleman familiar with the area claimed a Native American site was just a few steps behind where I painted this painting. We never found anything to indicate that to be the case.
my horse Casey grazing by the Dismal.
one fall I was struck by all the different colors of vegetation I saw riding horse back along the Dismal.
View is from our west pasture looking directly north. I always amazed me, because down in the valley it seemed the river ran directly east.
one favorite hill on our ranch. Didn't ever name it. I wonder why not?
first painting I ever did of the Dismal, but worked it over about 20 years later, and added to it.
                                       looking east.
This was from a hill right across the river from the soddy. There was a walkbridge over the river which I left out of the painting.
                                              my favorite hill again.
view mentioned above: (native american) but further east, closer to the edge and looking directly west.
one of my favorite bends in the river, a bit hard to get to this spot. Walk through lots of pine and cedar.

looking east back towards the (native american village site)
place looking west, notice the hill again, but it actually is on the side of the river I am standing.
this was a view looking south from the other ranch my family used to own in the sandhills.
                                      bend in west pasture
spot west of the ranch, stopped one day canoeing. Thought those hills might be my hill. looking to the east.
